Signs of alcoholism.

Anyone who suspects they know someone who has a drinking problem will want to know about alcoholism signs. You may think you could have a problem yourself. If this is the case, it is even more important to know the alcoholism signs that will clear it up for you.

One of the most notorious alcoholism signs occurs when drinkers make excuses. They can make all kinds of excuses. If you find yourself making excuses not to engage in a family function because you want to go out and drink, it is one of the alcoholism signs you cannot ignore.

Another of the alcoholism signs about excuses is making excuses as to why you drink in the first place. You may say that your husband is too critical or your wife is too nagging. You may say your boss does not appreciate you. You may even blame it on your kids, saying you cannot face their disobedience without the drink to settle your nerves.

Drinking alone is one of the oldest recognized alcoholism signs. This is because when you drink alone, you are not drinking to enhance a social experience. You are not engaging in meaningful relationships with others. Your only relationship at a time like that is with your bottle. It is one of the sadder alcoholism signs.

Similar to this is another of the alcoholic signs. This is drinking secretly. If you feel guilty about your drinking, you may drink when no one will notice. Or, you may just not want to deal with someone’s disapproval. You may spend a lot of time gargling to get the smell of alcohol off your breath.

You may become very angry when people dare to say anything to you about your drinking. You do not want to think of it as a problem. Even if you are beginning to think it might be a problem, you are irate that someone else is making it their business to try to push you before you are ready to quit. Alcoholism signs like these can make for very strained relationships.

When drinking episodes erupt into violent outbursts, everyone involved should be able to identify the alcoholism signs. It does not take a genius to figure out that your anger only gets out of control when you are drunk. Your family will learn to avoid you when you are drinking. If you get into physical fights, you may even be arrested.

Signs of alcoholism can be seen in the way you take care of yourself. If you do not eat properly, it might be an indication that you are thinking more about your next drink. It may mean that you no longer care about your health. Your physical grooming is another of the signs of alcoholism that there is something obviously wrong.

Knowing the signs of alcoholism is not an excuse to find ways to hide your drinking habits. That would be self destructive, and very few people can hide it effectively anyway. The way to use the signs of alcoholism is to know when to seek help.
